Fine art nude photography continues in the tradition of painting, trying to elevate visual pleasure we take in the human body to the level of art. Not all photographs taken since the 19th century can be called fine art. But when it's good, as it often is, it's worthy of contemplation and discussion as the best of paintings.

Photography magazines in the West and Japan always gave some space to this genre. This is an ad for The Journal of Erotica published in a 1998 issue of Amateur Photographer. It features the work of Karen Rosenthal, one of the best known in this genre.
